Dog parade for socialized dogs to benefit local animal charities, 6:00PM Shay Park; call Carol Davis 503-367-2378. S’mores @ Open Air market on Madison, 4-7 PM. Vernonia Jazzercise Open House Week - September 6

Recycling Class - September 10, 7PM
Mark Lemay, a Vernonia resident and Master Recycler will have a discussion at the Vernonia Community Learning Center about how to participate in curb-side recycling more beneficial to you, the environment, and our community. Learn tricks for recycling more efficiently, and why recycling is important. Come get inspired!
St. Mary’s Quilt and Crafts Fair - September 18-21, 10AM-4PM
St. Mary’s Church is having a unique craft bazaar. Admission still only $1!
Vernonia Community Garage Sale - September 20, 9AM-5PM
The 10th Annual Community Wide Garage Sale is almost here! All residents and businesses wanting to be included can sign up by calling Helen Bateman at 503-429-6203. Maps of all participating locations will be available the Friday before the sale. In the past years over forty locations have held a sale. Several groups have donated all or a portion of their proceeds to nonprofit organizations or individuals in need of assistance.

Seventh Annual Salmon Festival - October 4

Why: Repealing Ordinance 725 and Adopting Ordinance 851 relating to the enactment of a Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.
The City of Vernonia has proposed a land use regulation that may affect the
permissible uses of your property and other properties. It is a flood hazard
prevention ordinance that is being changed.
When: February 7, 2008 at 5:00 pm before the Planning Commission and
7:00 pm before City Council

“Vernonia 2020” - March 3, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
“Vernonia 2020” is a series of community based information and planning meetings begins at the Community Church, on the corner of State and A Streets in Vernonia. Come share both your immediate concerns and your vision for the future of the city. Vernonia information and relief agencies will be on hand to provide residents access to recovery resources. Additional community meetings are planned for March 10th and 24th.

The Hidden Meaning of Fairy Tales - March 18, 7:00 p.m.
The Vernonia Public Library will present an Oregon Chautauqua program made possible by funding from the Oregon Council for the Humanities. The title of the program is “The Witch’s Garden: The Hidden Meaning of Fairy Tales.”

Vernonia Senior Center’s Grand Opening - April 28, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Come join in on the music, fun and food. Lunch will be served at noon. $3.00 under 60, $3.00 donation for seniors 60 and over.

Vernonia School Band Second Annual Garage Sale, May 17, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Where: VHS Cafeteria

“Down By The Riverside Cleanup” - May 17, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Oregon Trail Rally - May 17 and 18

7th grade students from Vernonia Middle School will be presenting a play at the Washington Grade School gym.

Hazardous Waste Disposal - May 31, 8:00 a.m. to Noon
Waste Transfer Station, St. Helens. Columbia County is offering free household hazardous waste disposal the last Saturday of each month at the waste transfer station in St. Helens (paints, cleaners, automotive chemicals (though not waste oil), pesticides, fluorescent lights, and many other items). If you have any questions about what is acceptable, call 503 397-1501.

First Friday - June 6, 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join your friends and neighbors to celebrate the arts in Vernonia. Art, music, food, Open Air Market, Scape Goat Bonfire, Open Mic Night, and much more!
Schedule of Activities:
• 4:00PM - 7:00PM - Open Air Market (normally held behind the Community Learning Center ) will be on Madison Street, just north of Bridge Street.
• 6:30PM - Bonfire behind Wauna Federal Credit Union on Weed where we’ll gather around a bonfire to burn away the sorrows and frustrations of the past winter. For a $1:00 donation to the First Friday Committee, you can write your personal grievances on a paper scapegoat and toss it in the fire.
• 7:30 PM - Eileen Williams will give a short introductory presentation on animal communications at the Grange.
• 8:00 PM - by an Open Mike Night where local musicians, poets and other performers can have some stage time to share their talents. Admittance is free, but donations are requested to cover repairs and utilities usage.
Local merchants participating in June First Friday include Clever Cricket, Grey Dawn, Buckhorn, and Out on a Limb. 52nd Annual Vernonia Friendship Jamboree and Logging Show - August 1-3
Join your friends in Vernonia, as we celebrate life in the upper Nehalem Valley. Three days of Food, Fun and Friends. For all the details and a complete schedule see our Jamboree Guide. It will feature tours of emergency vehicles, a police dog demonstration by Vernonia Police Sergeant Mike Kay and Canine Officer Krueger, and other surprises. Please bring the whole family out and show support for Vernonia.
